Hydrogen Genset Trailer
The Challenge
In the wake of the current energy transition, H2 Portable (a Chilliwack based start up) set out to design a hydrogen-electric generator trailer that would help decarbonize the industrial sector. While hydrogen technology has been underway for many decades, large gaps still exist in the realization and application of practical solutions, alongside a lack of companies with the skills and assets to design products ready for commercialization.
GOALS
Meet current genset load demands
Emit zero emissions
A mobile and modular platform
The solution
With a concept and early designs in hand, H2P partnered with TYCROP to design a hydrogen-electric genset that would emit zero emissions, while maintaining the load offered by traditional diesel gensets. The scope of work and complexity of this project meant that TYCROP was best suited to undertake and lead the entire project, including innovation, design, engineering, components selection, product development, controls, installation, and testing.
A modular design separates the hydrogen power and fuel system, the battery system, and the power electronics. Allowing the design to be scaled to match customer applications with the right product.
The H2P 100 Genset is a first of its kind in the world, and no small feat to achieve, requiring significant resources, expertise, teamwork, and cooperation between industry and government.
